The Electric State Review – Not So Shocking After All

Rating: ⭐⭐½ (2.5/5)

Watched Netflix’s most expensive movie – The Electric State, starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown.

As soon as I heard it was directed by the Russo Brothers, I got super hyped. Maybe that’s why I went in with high expectations. And honestly… the movie kinda let me down.

[No Spoilers]

The story is set in a world where technology is super advanced. Even though the timeline is somewhere in the 90s, humans and robots coexist. But something goes wrong, and a war breaks out between humans and robots. As a result, most robots are either killed or imprisoned.

The plot begins with Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown). One day, a robot randomly shows up at her house and claims to be her dead brother.

Now here’s the thing: in a world where robots are supposedly destroyed or locked up, where did this one come from? And is her brother really alive? To find out, Michelle sets off on an adventure with this yellow robot.

Joining them is Keats (Chris Pratt), an outlaw, and his robot buddy Herman.

To know what happens next and how they reach the end, you’ll have to watch The Electric State.

Now, let’s get into it—there wasn’t a single character I could really connect with. Some of the conversations felt totally forced, just to stretch the runtime. The story doesn’t have enough content to justify a full 2-hour film.

Even Key Huy Quan and Giancarlo Esposito felt almost absent—blink and you’ll miss them. They definitely deserved more screen time.

The first half had weak screenplay, and I was hoping the second half would save it… but it actually got worse.

I did enjoy some of Chris Pratt’s one-liner comedy, though not all of them landed. But most were decent. If you’re watching the Hindi dub, you might miss the humor—Hindi versions tend to overdo the comedy.

Now, the best part? The visual effects and CGI. You can tell the big budget was well spent.

Whenever there was a wide shot with robots in action—those scenes were eye candy. But just when I thought the real action was about to begin… the movie ended. Brutal.

Final thoughts: If you’re watching this with your family, you’ll probably enjoy it. But if you’re like me and went in with high hopes… you might walk away disappointed.
